The number of residential units sold in Turkey in September 2019 (146.903 units) according to statistics published by the Turkish Statistical Organization TÜİK.
This reflects an increase in sales of 15.4% compared to the same month last year 2018. Istanbul was the first city among the best-selling Turkish cities for residential units by selling 23.265 housing units by 15.8% of the total sales, and Ankara came in the second place among the best-selling Turkish cities with 14.906 residential units, accounting for 10.1% of total sales, and Izmir came in the third among the best-selling Turkish cities with 8.830 housing units, accounting for 6% of total sales. While the least selling cities were Sirnak with 75 units sold and Hakkari and Ardhan sold 19 units each.
Sales of mortgaged housing units in September of this year amounted to 57.811 mortgaged housing units, achieving an increase of 410.2% compared to sales in the same month of last year 2018, and 39.4% of the total sales of residential units in September. Istanbul ranked first among the best-selling Turkish cities for mortgaged housing units with sales of 8.719 mortgaged units, accounting for 15.1% of the total sales of mortgaged housing units throughout Turkey.
What about residential units sold for the first time?
The number of residential units sold for the first time in September of this year amounted to 51.393, accounting for 35% of the total sales of residential units throughout Turkey. 16.2% of the total sales of residential units sold for the first time followed by Ankara with 3.921 units sold for the first time, followed by Izmir with 2887.
Sales of used housing units reached 95 thousand and 510 used housing units, and was the first place in the sales of used housing units to the share of Istanbul by the sale of 14 thousand and 918 used housing units, or 15.6% of sales of used housing units throughout Turkey, and was the second largest share of Ankara with 10.985 sales, and Izmir with 5.943 used housing units.
Housing units: foreigners’ sales
The number of houses sold to foreigners in September of this year was 4.177 housing units. Istanbul ranked first among the best-selling Turkish cities with 924 housing units, followed by Antalya with 744 housing units, Ankara with 239 housing units, Bursa with 213 housing units, then Yalova with 141 residential units sold to foreigners.
As for the nationalities of foreign citizens who purchased housing units in Turkey, we find that Iraqis maintained the lead with purchases of 781 housing units, followed by Iranians keeping second place with purchases of 489 housing units, and Russians came in the third place with purchases of 248 housing units, Saudis came in the fourth place with purchases of 214 housing units, and Kuwaitis ranked fifth with purchases of 191 housing units.
